Word through the grapevine should never be underestimated. And, nothing could be truer for Finroo’s limited edition tees. We started the month off right when Thrillist, featured Finroo during Thrillist Week  as one of their TOP TEN products of the year. Thrillist used fourteen of our organic bamboo tees as a display while we spent the week schmoozing at their loft with fellow tee-junkies.

PROOF

I guess word got out that there was a new fish in the water because following Thrillist Week, Finroo was featured inbuy-tees.net:

Have A Whale Of A Time At Finroo

June 10, 2009

Before you start on me - yes it’s another crowd sourcing t-shirt contest site - this time the web design is absolutely top notch, they offer truly limited edition tees, there’s at least one very very highly talented artist on their books and Finroo’s attention to detail is unparalleled. All of their t-shirts are made from softer than soft bamboo which is a delight to wear as well as great for the environment - machine washable, all natural and a hypo-allergenic, absorbent, and fast drying. The tees are sold at an average market price of $34.95, I was recently approached for a review by an independent label that also sold bamboo tees and couldn’t afford to offer them less than $49 and so Finroo’s figures seem impressive. What’s more they donate $1 from every t-shirt sold to charity so you can literally feel the good karma effervescing from this company.

And then it happened again with Clothing Wire:

Brand Profile: Finroo

Finroo is operated by Eric Yohay, Kevin Sandhu, and Black Curwen out of Cambridge, MA. Founded in January ’09, the brand represents a new twist on clothing where everything is printed in limited batches of 100, with each print’s actual number featured inside each garment. In addition, a portion of proceeds are saved for donations.

Needless to say, Finroo has been learning and living the upsides of the good ole grapevine.

Hey Guys,

I just spoke to my friend matt who works for Creative contact.  A lot of people have been asking me about art shows, and these guys are not only a good resource, but throw a lot of events in the northeast.  Here is a little about their company.

Creative Contact helps artists become successful doing what they love. Creative Contact is an online platform where artists can promote themselves and their work, find talented artists to work with, and collaborate easily on projects.

Creative contact has formed partnerships with art organizations across the US and offer free enhanced accounts for all art students.

Note from Eric

It has come to my attention that one of our artists has uploaded artwork that was not rightfully his. As soon as this was found out, the original artist was informed, and the artwork on our site was taken down.  After we received confirmation from the original artists that this was posted without his consent, we immediately banned that user from our site.

Finroo does not promote or support any artists that is not genuine and has the courage to promote their own work.  We will work harder then ever to make sure this doesn't happen in the future.

I am also proud to say that after I contacted the original artist, Joe, he highly considered posting this work (the original) on our site.  I hope he does.

If you have any questions or concerns about this you can always email me at eric@finroo.com

First off, congrats on being selected as Finroo’s very first spot light artist! How do you feel about this accomplishment?

I am blessed to have been chosen and firmly appreciate the opportunity. So i feel Fantastic! Also, being able to assist in the abundance of charities makes this accomplishment even more meaningful. thank you FINROO.com!

Your work is extremely intricate and unique. How would you describe your style?

when i try to describe my style i can speak from how it has developed, the style i aspire to create, or how others explain my style to me. It fun how others perceive the art i create and they usually name drop Dali, Mc Escher, Keith Herring, Peter Max . I started drawing at a young age, and it followed me through my education and became a focus in college. Studying animation in college gave me the chance to make the designs move as well. The over all style is a mix of a boundless and consistent flow of inspirations, therefore it can fluctuate into any form or style and never leaves me. want some?

For all of the aspiring artists out there- and fans- where do you get your inspiration for your work? In other words, what has been your latest muse?

Inspiration is very simple and at the same time is the foundation of creativity. So, for anyone who does not think they can draw or says they have a block in their inspiration or creativity, relax. Look around u, and just give your focus to what is. Take objects and combine them, modify existing things, draw with ur eyes closed, hold ur breath and draw, just keep the pen to the paper and keep going. Its all about creating when u dont want to to or think u cant, because you can. Stop throwing away paper and just spend time with ur creation, then let it go. and check out all the links in my bio, because its all about following what inspires u most and meeting those who create with and around that inspiration. and the latest muse is the thought of a single line.

This past month, FinRoo’s limited edition tees have been turning heads and gaining some well-deserved attention. Check out the articles below from Thrillist and Cottonable. Drum roll please!

Thrillist

Finroo

Like a girl at a party when she sees some skank wearing the same dress, man risks the crushing shame of entering a bar only to see some total herb's also rocking his ill Fantastic Four graphic tee, and doing it better. Spare yourself such ignominy, with garb from Finroo

Launched in January, but only now actually shipping stuff, 'Roo prints user-submitted tee designs in limited runs of 100, ensuring that you'll be the only person in the room expressing your individuality thanks to somebody else's hard work. Any submitted art that passes quality assessment and copyright infringement screening goes up for sale on the site, available on uber-soft bamboo tees printed w/ their run number, and with its relative prominence (or lack thereof) on the homepage determined by a combination of metrics including user votes, total purchases, and page hits, a mind boggling computation that would take hours by hand, but thanks to Fin's supercomputer is now refreshed every 30 minutes. Once a shirt's sold out it disappears from the site, ensuring fresh designs're always getting pushed to the front, and for every tee sold $4 is kicked to the artist, with another buck going to a charity the artist's choosing. So yeah, they get $5.

Fin's jump-started their collection by handpicking graphic design, tattoo, and graffiti artists to submit their works, which include jobs like a grenade w/ a smiley-face pin, a toddler seemingly being eaten by a stroller, and a lone pair of sunglasses, which you'll wish you could pull off and wear once you notice some stud wearing a shirt emblazoned with Fantastic Five.

Finroo, Bamboo-made Artsy T-shirts Won't Run Forever

Posted by Rangga

Finroo is a graphic T-shirt company specialized in producing limited run tees in batches of 100. Not only limited edition, these tee are actually printed with number of the design inside the garment itself. Design-wise, they're doing good with John Fitzpatrick tees dominate latest collection -- followed by other Eric Carter, Clint Ozturk, Horsten Schmidt and some more talented graphic artists.

Besides work with up and coming artists, Finroo prints on high quality bamboo and organic cotton blanks and donate a dollar to charity for every sale -- average t-shirt prices is $34.99 (thanks God they don't donate 99 cents per T-shirt). Another thing I really like from Finroo is that users/visitors/fans feedback to tool of every T-shirts. You can give 1-5 rating of every tee in term of color, design, placement and overall rating as well as feedback form of what you like or dislike from each tee. Even if you don't feel like buying a T-shirt, spending some times being T-shirt critic is not so bad either.

Too bad, I don't see any other color of tees except white; they should, next time, print those designs on non-white tees. Hey, that's my first suggestion as tee critic... Don't copy my words, please!
