NY, NY (Oct. 6, 2009)— The country may still be stuck in the middle of a prolonged economic recession, but don’t tell that to the partners of Finroo.com, a recently launched limited edition t-shirt company. Countering the conventional wisdom, which instructs us that prices naturally decline during downturns, Finroo has amazingly decided to increase the price of its Black Label shirts, which now cost an amazing $95 a shirt!
As a limited edition, bamboo silk shirt company, Finroo has always catered to an exclusive, fashion conscious crowd. Over the past month, however, Finroo has taken wearable art to a different level with the launch of its new limited edition Black, Platinum, Gold, and Purple labels.
“We figured out pretty quickly that one size definitely didn’t fit all when it came to personalized, limited edition shirts. So we decided to experiment with different lines of limit (200/100/50/25). It really differentiated us from other high end, graphic art shirt companies,” said Eric Yohay, President.
Finroo prints its international graphic art designs on organic bamboo silk, which is the ultimate fabric for soft shirt lovers and environmentalists alike. It’s hard to argue with the fact that these are the softest, most durable, and most eco-friendly shirts on the block. It still begs the question, though, will people pony up more than $50 for a shirt?
“If you look at the high end shirt market, people are willing to pay a lot for boutique brands. At a certain point, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy: the shirts are perceived to be trendy and exclusive because they are expensive. Since our label prices are based on edition size— all the way from $27.99 to $95— our customers actually know what they paying for. It’s true exclusivity, not just some easily forged logo or phony luxury perception,” said Ben Plesser, Director of Business Development
Finroo is betting on a bold new game in high end, designer shirts. Now it’s time for its customers to choose their stakes.

MBA Plan B: Finoo, Limited Edition Clothing

Cambridge, Mass. (Sept. 15, 2009) – In a normal year, completing the MBA program at Babson College means opening the door to new and exciting career opportunities that otherwise might pass them by. For Eric Yohay, Blake Curwen, and Kevin Sandhu, that is exactly what they envisioned when they accepted their invitations to the competitive MBA program in the early months of 2008.
Fast forward to graduation in spring 2009, and reality has dealt the recent grads a different hand. With unemployment hovering around the 10 percent mark and senior positions seeing fierce competition from hundreds of applicants, Yohay, Curwen and Sandhu knew it was time to launch a plan B: Finroo.com.
"I think everyone in my inner circle was saying what a great time it was to go back to school. Turns out it couldn't have been worse. Everyone needs a back up," said Blake Curwen, Director of Sales and Marketing
Finroo is a limited edition clothing company that offers product direct from designers to consumers. Finroo taps into an international pool of artists who submit their designs to the site and receive commission for each shirt that is sold. In addition to commission, a portion of each sale is given to a charity of the artist’s choice. Finroo also offers thousands of dollars in prize money to its artist community through various sales contests. The shirts are printed on super soft eco-friendly bamboo, and each T is individually numbered. Focused on originality and turning T-shirts into 'wearable art,' the company's first line runs in limited editions of 100. That translates into one shirt for every 184 towns in the US.
Finroo is presently using its internal budget for online advertising and search engine optimization while seeking angel and VC funding. In addition to selling directly from its site, Finroo has begun to move into retail spaces in select cities. This October, Finroo will be hosting live 'Final Rounds' (Think of an MC battle, but with artists instead) in New York allowing artists to create designs live on stage that will later be made into shirts. The company’s sales and notoriety continues to grow each month, which Finroo largely credits to its large and continually expanding artist community.
"The key is to just get people in front of the shirts. The designs are awesome, and the bamboo is the most comfortable thing you'll ever touch," said Eric Yohay, President.

Here at Finroo, we’re all about rethinking and rebooting the way that the art world currently operates. We believed that there was something fundamentally wrong with a system in which talented artists had to barely scrape by, while attempting to sell canvases whose proceeds would largely go to galleries. We believed that more intimately connecting these artists with a community of exclusive shirt and graphic design lovers would be the solution that would benefit everyone.
Now, we are ready to launch Finroo Final Round, the next step in the evolution of art as a social experience. Over the next month, we will be hosting a series of live art shows, where our artists will paint canvases in front of crowds of over 200 people. These events will be held in popular bars and clubs around Manhattan, Boston, and LA. They will take the form of two hour exhibitions, which will test the creativity and skill of our artists (have you ever held a Gin and Tonic in one hand and created a masterpiece with the other?). All of the performance art will be sold on Finroo as original canvases, our exclusive bamboo silk shirts, and more.
The bell for the Final Round just rang, are you ready to come out of your corner?

I like simple pleasures, like butter in my ass, lollipops in my mouth. That’s just me. That’s just something that I enjoy. – Floyd Gondolli, Boogie Nights
Although most of us tend to keep things a bit more kosher than the adult film financier, Floyd has a valid point – life is all about those everyday delights, usually so elementary and common that we take them for granted. Whether it is the first sip from a cold beer, the last glimpse of sunlight fading over the ocean, or that intoxicating aroma of new tennis balls from a fresh can of Wilsons, we all should take a moment to appreciate the wonders that make it so great to be alive. For me, there are few feelings that rival the sensation of putting on a comfortable, soft t-shirt. What’s even better is when that shirt is adorned with a unique, eye-catching design. Fortunately for clothing junkies, limited edition wearable art company, Finroo.com, has the fix on the trendiest designs and have partnered up with the Campus Socialite for an exciting opportunity.

Finroo’s motto advises you to “swim against the tide” and this trailblazing spirit is expressed in each of their artists’ designs. What separates Finroo from the average online clothing site is its one-of-a-kind format that can only be described as a continuous design competiton. T-shirt artists can create an account and then submit their design ideas to Finroo for approval. Once given the green light, artwork is placed onto shirts and designers are rewarded with 10% of the profits from each sale while a separate portion of the purchase is donated to a charity of the artist’s choosing.

All designs are sold on super high quality bamboo products that ensure a relaxed, natural feel combining both fashion and comfort. The 70% bamboo, 30% organic cotton blend featured in each Finroo shirt is the ideal combination for material that provides both a soft fit and acts as a palette to accentuate vivid colors. Shirts are available in limited edition quantities of 25, 50, 100, and 200 and each individually numbered item is sorted on the homepage based on availability, novelty, design, and popularity. Visitors are free to offer feedback to artists and these critiques help improve the overall quality of work on Finroo.

As if their high quality, user-generated goods weren’t enough to reinforce Finroo.com’s distinctiveness, the site plans on introducing limited edition posters, wall decals and high quality canvas pieces for both review and purchase. Just like their t-shirt designs, only the cream of the crop will be made available for purchase and these products are printed on demand. Finroo welcomes submissions from all interested designers and features an artist profile page that allows customers to get to know the people behind their favorite shirts.

We at the Campus Socialite understand that our readers possess some of the most innovative minds of their generation and know that many of you are interested in the styles made popular by Finroo.com. With that in mind, we have joined forces with our friends at Finroo to create a contest encouraging artists to enter their design ideas for the official Campus Socialite t-shirt. Keep checking The Campus Socialite over the next few days for more information on the contest and the terms! Also, if you are in attendance at the big Precious Time launch party at Bar Social, Finroo.com will be setting up an art battle right in the lounge!
